Coalition Activities

The Coalition works to improve ODSP by lobbying politicians, making submissions to consultations on the budget or on poverty reduction, trying to get ODSP issues raised in the media, sharing information with recipients and agencies, providing input to the Ministry of Community and Social Services, and by networking with other groups with similar goals.  The actual work is carried out primarily of all by our members in their own communities, and by our committees which plan strategies on particular issues and prepare materials to assist all Coaliton members in this work.

The Coalition's committees for 2008 were:  Lobbying and Media Committee, which plans our lobbying and media strategies, and supplies our members and other groups across the province with materials to speak to politicians and the media in their own communities; the Access Committee, which deals with issues related to accessibility, applications, and service delivery by ODSP offices; the Earnings/Employment Supports Working Group, which advocates for better earnings rules and policies to help recipients obtain employment, and the Train the Trainer Committee which is developing an educational workshop about the rules and benefits available under ODSP which could be provided anywhere in the province.

The full Coalition meets every two months by teleconference to share news of the committee work and of what members are doing across the province.  We gather together either yearly or every two years, for a Strategy Planning Forum to discuss the priority issues and decide how we will work on them inthe next year.  The last Strategy Planning Conference was in April 2009, entitled "Leading the Way:  A Poverty Reduction Strategy for People With Disabilities"

The Coalition committees which were active in 2008 each prepared reports evaluating their work.  You can read those reports here:
