The ODSP Action Coalition made three submissions to the Commission for the Review of Social Assistance in Ontario. We have also written a series of shorter position papers on some of the recommendations made by the Commission in Brighter Prospects, the report by Commissioners Frances Lankin and Munir Sheikh.
The Ontario government has not yet indicated whether they will implement the recommendations in Brighter Prospects, other than the $14 increase for single Ontario Works recipients, the higher asset levels for OW, and the $200 flat rate earnings exemption. But they have indicated that they will look at the other recommendations, and consult with stakeholders and people with lived experience about what specific changes they should make to OW and ODSP. Therefore the Coalition wishes to share our positions on these issues widely.
